Hitched!

As promised here are some of the photos. But the camera was on a weird setting so most of them are blurry :o( but we also used my "antique" camera so hopefully some of those turned out better...

Here I am with Mauricio's mom getting the flowers ready...

Later we went to get our hair, nails and make-up done. I was a hit with my pale skin and long fingers!! I know that sounds lame, but that's what it's like, it makes me feel uncomfortable etc.

And here is some of Mauricio's family on his mother's side. (His dad decided not to come in the end. I guess he doesn't feel comfortable around Daisy's family etc.) This first one is Tio (uncle) Beto and Tia (aunt) Maria Eugenia (I spelt it way wrong in the last post - sounds like mariohenya!!) He did the paper work which, in bureaucratic Bolivia is means he's a miracle worker. She performed the ceremony.

And here we are with Daisy on the left and Tia Rosio on the right. She's married and has four kids more or less around Mauricio's age... but they're blurry...

And here is Mauricio's cousin Fabiola (daughter of Tio Beto and Tia Maria Eugenia) Fabiola made the food which was really great, but again in typical latin style (from what I've gathered so far) it was served really late, like past 10pm - we were all wilting by that point.

And the stars of the show, blurry but not bleary...

The ceremony was simple and civil (ha ha)

But we forgot the rings if you can imagine... We thought a time would come when they would ask for the rings. But some people don't use rings, so they thought we didn't have them.  It was funny...

Here's Mauricio hanging out with his best bud all the way from Brazil, Fabio, aka goldeneye...

Los novios de nuevo...

After the cake, we finally managed to sneak away and went to the most expensive hotel here for their $100 Honeymoon special!! It was really great and fancy, there were white roses all through the suite and tucked into the linen etc., and a bottle of champagne with candles and a great view of the city lights.

Here we are lounging outside on their restaurant patio on the first day of the rest of our life…

And that’s the end of the story… or rather, that’s how the story begins!!

Going to the chapel and we're gonna...

Hey everyone, I have some good news to share… Mauricio and I are going to get married this weekend, on Saturday. Yikes! Get married is something I thought I might never say and it’s still taking some getting used to. We’ve talked about it for a while and for some reason got a bee in our communal bonnet about it last weekend. So it’s kind of last minute-ish but as I’ve been saying I don’t think I could bear more suspense or building of expectation.

We bought some shoes for me last night… no small feat considering 99% of women’s footwear is of the “platform” variety and doesn’t come in my size anyway. They’re small, black and simple. I added one large, fake, tear-shaped diamond to each, so they look great. We got the rings at lunch today, simple and silver. I’ll wear the dress that I wore in Cathy’s wedding. It’s going to be a civil ceremony, in the house of Mauricio’s aunt Rosio, performed by Mauricio’s aunt Marioheña and catered by Mauricio’s cousin Fabiola. I’m going to make the cake - of course – something rich and chocolaty. On Saturday we’ll go to the flower market and then Mauricio’s mom, Daisy, and I will go together to do our hair and make-up. Not a bad plan for one week of preparation.

Anyhoo, I’m a little sad that I don’t really have anyone from “my side” here boo hoo… But Mauricio and I are excited and happy! I’ll post pictures next week!!

New phone number

We changed the chip in our cell phone so the new number is:
011 591 70689892

With luck we may finally - after 8 months of "paper work" - be getting a fixed phone line within the next few days!! Keep fingers crossed :o)
